Subhir Uppal offers a unique and forward-thinking perspective on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the real estate industry. His diverse background spans traditional real estate roles – including salesperson, brokerage manager, and broker of record/owner – as well as construction, commercial ventures, property management, and technology-centric brokerages based in the US. Currently, Subhir serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Broker of Record for uppaBe, a technology-centric brokerage in Ottawa focused on delivering a simple, cost-effective, and transparent approach to buying and selling real estate.
In this rapidly evolving landscape, where traditional real estate practices will be challenged by technologies like artificial intelligence, shifting government priorities in housing, and growing consumer demands for change, Subhir believes the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) must take a proactive approach in fostering compliance and ensuring a level playing field for all stakeholders. As a passionate advocate for both the real estate industry and consumers, Subhir is committed helping RECO achieve a delicate balance between the regulator, the registrants, and consumers, creating a transparent and fair industry for everyone.
Subhir’s strong foundation in business education and strategy is reflected in his MBA and Bachelor of Commerce degree. He is committed to excellence in real estate training, earning his FRI designation and serving as an instructor with the Real Estate Institute of Canada (REIC). A recognized subject matter expert, Subhir shares his insights on emerging trends in the real estate industry at REIC events, industry conferences, and his blog. He also brings substantial governance experience, having served on multiple boards and committees. These include the Board of Directors for the Ottawa Safety Council, the REIC, and 10 years with RECO on various iterations of the Industry Advisory Group, where he also served as Chair. He has also contributed to local real estate boards as an instructor and discipline committee member.
Beyond the real estate industry, Subhir is passionate about giving back to his community. He has been a dedicated youth mentor for Junior Achievers and other business-focused youth initiatives for over five years, inspiring the next generation of leaders. His contributions and achievements have been recognized with honours such as the 2024 Entrepreneurship of the Year Award from the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce.
