RECO brings sector together at its first Collaboration Summit

The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) hosted its first Collaboration Summit on January 27, bringing together representatives from real estate boards, brokerages, professional associations, and the government for an open discussion on key priorities in Ontario’s real estate services sector.

The summit marked the beginning of a more open, ongoing dialogue between RECO and the sector, with a focus on three priority areas: annual brokerage financial filings, trust account oversight, and the insurance program.

“This marked our first Collaboration Summit — the start of a more open, ongoing dialogue between RECO and the sector. Listening directly to those working on the ground is essential as we strengthen how we work together and continue to evolve as a modern regulator worthy of public trust,” said Jean Lépine, Administrator and Acting CEO for RECO.

The discussions were facilitated by Ipsos who guided the conversation and supported the collection of feedback. Insights from the summit will inform further analysis and an upcoming Ipsos survey that will be shared with registrants in the coming weeks to ensure broader sector input.

The Honourable Stephen Crawford, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, also joined the summit to share remarks and underscore the importance of collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and consumer protection.

“This gathering reflected a recognition that Ontario’s real estate sector is evolving, that expectations are changing, and that the regulator must be equipped to meet that moment,” said Minister Crawford. “The best solutions — the durable, thoughtful, practical ones — come from working together.”

The Collaboration Summit is the first of several engagement opportunities RECO plans to host as part of its broader transformation and modernization efforts.

RECO will continue to share updates on next steps, including the forthcoming survey and additional opportunities for sector engagement.
