April 28, 2025, Toronto — The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) has released its 2024 Annual Report, marking important milestones in advancing consumer protection, strong regulatory oversight, and increasing trust in Ontario’s real estate services sector.
RECO regulates more than 110,000 registrants, fulfilling its mission to protect consumers by ensuring agents and brokerages follow the law.
“RECO’s work in 2024 was anchored in accountability and a clear commitment to consumer protection,” said Brenda Buchanan, Interim CEO. “Through steady progress on our strategic goals, we are building a regulator grounded in trust, transparency, and service in the public interest, while supporting an informed real estate services sector in compliance with the law.”

RECO has also released its 2025 Business Plan, outlining initiatives to enhance regulatory effectiveness, consumer awareness, and digital modernization.

The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) is a not-for-profit organization that regulates real estate agents and brokerages across the province. Its mission is to protect consumers by ensuring that real estate agents, brokers, and brokerages understand and comply with the law.
RECO establishes educational requirements for real estate agents and brokers, including pre-registration, post-registration, and continuing education programs, to equip them with the knowledge necessary to remain compliant and effectively serve consumers.
RECO also works to educate consumers about their rights and responsibilities, including publishing the RECO Information Guide, which agents and brokers are required to share with every prospective client or self-represented party.
