The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) is seeking Auditors for our Audit & Inspection team. We have five permanent positions available to start immediately.

The role

Reporting to the Team Lead, Audit & Inspection, the Auditor conducts financial, operational, and compliance audits of real estate brokerages under the Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002 (TRESA). Supporting RECO’s consumer protection mandate, the Auditor assesses compliance with legislative requirements, trust accounting obligations, financial controls, and brokerage standards.

Position responsibilities

  • Conduct risk-based, special, and follow-up audits of brokerages and registrants operating under TRESA.
  • Review and assess brokerage financial records, trust accounts, transaction records, policies, procedures, and operational practices.
  • Evaluate compliance with legislative, regulatory, and registrar requirements.
  • Review trust account reconciliations and verify the accuracy of financial records and trust liabilities.
  • Examine financial transactions and supporting documentation to identify discrepancies, irregularities, control weaknesses, or potential misuse of trust funds.
  • Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and record-keeping practices.
  • Apply risk-based audit methodologies to identify areas requiring further examination.

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in auditing, accounting, compliance, financial examination, regulatory oversight, or a related field.
  • Experience conducting financial reviews, audits, reconciliations, or compliance assessments.
  • Experience interpreting legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures is preferred.
  • Experience within a regulatory, public sector, financial services, or real estate environment is considered an asset
  • University degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • CPA designation or progression toward a CPA designation is considered an asset
  • Experience in back office real estate brokerage administration, including knowledge of brokerage operations, deal processing, regulatory compliance is an asset.
