The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) is seeking a Systems Administrator. We have one 12-month contract position available to start immediately.

The role
Reporting to and working closely with the Director, Information Technology, the Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, administration, security, and continuous improvement of RECO’s hybrid IT infrastructure.
This role plays a key technical leadership function in supporting and evolving RECO’s on-premises and Microsoft Azure cloud environments. The Systems Administrator ensures high availability, performance, integration, and security across infrastructure, identity platforms, collaboration systems, networking, and core business systems.
The successful candidate will contribute to infrastructure modernization initiatives while maintaining operational excellence across existing systems.
Position responsibilities
- Take a technical lead role in the implementation, integration, and optimization of new infrastructure solutions across on-premises and Microsoft Azure environments.
- Administer and support Microsoft Azure services, including:
- Entra ID (Azure AD) and hybrid identity integration
- Azure Virtual Machines and IaaS workloads
- Virtual networking (VNets, NSGs, VPN connectivity)
- Azure Backup and Site Recovery
- Microsoft Defender and security controls
- Monitoring and performance management
- Support and maintain Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and related collaboration tools.
- Manage and maintain VMware vSphere infrastructure and physical server/storage platforms (Dell servers, Pure Storage or equivalent).
- Monitor system health daily, including identity services, cloud resources, network performance, email flow, logs, and security alerts. Proactively identify risks and implement remediation to maximize uptime and performance.
- Ensure all infrastructure systems (cloud and on-premises) are current with security updates, patches, and best practice configurations.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues across systems, networking, and applications using advanced troubleshooting methodologies.
- Participate in infrastructure design discussions and contribute to roadmap planning for cloud adoption, security enhancement, and modernization initiatives.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to system configurations, architecture diagrams, asset inventories, access management, security events, and change management records.
- Perform regular system maintenance, tuning, and updates through approved change management processes. Maintain logs of changes, outcomes, and infrastructure project status.
- Support governance, compliance, backup validation, disaster recovery readiness, and security best practices across the technology environment.
Qualifications and experience
- Minimum five years hands-on experience building and maintaining high-availability server, storage, and database environments (Dell, Pure Storage, or equivalent enterprise platforms).
- Minimum three to five years hands-on experience supporting Microsoft Azure infrastructure in a hybrid environment, including identity, virtual machines, networking, backup, and security.
- Minimum five years hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365 services.
- Minimum five years hands-on experience with VMware ESX/vSphere Enterprise.
- Experience supporting cloud-based telephony solutions.
- Strong experience with Windows Server, Active Directory (hybrid integration with Entra ID), SQL Server (2008 or newer), and enterprise endpoint management solutions.
- Current knowledge of Cisco and/or Meraki networking technologies.
- Experience with backup, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity best practices.
- Experience working within structured change management and security frameworks.
- Formal technical education and/or certifications, including IS/IT degree/diploma programs and professional and/or technology-specific certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, CCNA, VCP, Microsoft certifications, etc.).
- Minimum five years of experience in hands-on technical roles within large, complex technology environments.
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
