To become registered as a salesperson in Ontario, individuals must successfully complete their registration education courses within 18 months of starting the first course of the Salesperson Registration Education Program. The Ontario Real Estate Association Real Estate College (OREA) administers these courses on behalf of RECO.
An application for registration as a salesperson must be submitted to RECO within 12 months of successfully completing the registration education courses of the Salesperson Registration Education. In addition, anyone applying for registration must be at least 18 years old, be a resident of Canada and meet all requirements for registration under REBBA 2002.
Salespersons, once registered under REBBA 2002, must complete three additional articling courses in their initial two-year registration cycle in order to achieve permanent salesperson registration status. The articling courses are administered by OREA on behalf of RECO. Click here for more information on the articling courses.
After completing the articling courses in the initial two-year registration cycle, pursuant to O. Reg. 579/05, registrants must complete the Continuing Education (CE) requirements during each two-year registration cycle in order to maintain a real estate registration. The CE requirements completed for the renewal of registration will be declared to RECO at the time of registration renewal via the Declaration of Continuing Education. Click here for more information on the CE Program requirements.
A renewal reminder will be sent 60 days prior to the expiry date of registration.
Requirements for registration as a broker under REBBA 2002 include being employed as a salesperson for at least 24 of the 36 months immediately preceding the date of application. Registrants who have successfully completed the Real Estate Broker course must submit an application for registration as a broker to RECO within 12 months of successfully completing the Real Estate Broker course examination.
