5 | A Guide to Social Media Twitter Although maintaining compliance with respect to content posted on Twitter can be difficult, it is actually the easiest social media platform on which to establish a compliant profile. Your Twitter “handle” or username does not have to meet the Advertising Guidelines. However, your profile name must display your name as registered with RECO. To comply with the remaining requirements, include your description, brokerage name, and the term “brokerage” in the “bio” section. Content on Twitter is shared via “Tweets.” When Tweets discuss general or personal topics that are not real estate-related, they are not required to follow REBBA 2002, the Code of Ethics, or the Advertising Guidelines. Tweets that refer to any real estate subjects must be compliant. Registrants should be diligent to ensure that they are accurate in their statements and are not misrepresenting or providing false or misleading statements.
