Why did you decide to stand for election as a Director of RECO?
As a real estate professional for the last 13 years, I find it disappointing that the profession that I am a part of, is consistently seen by the general public as being one of the most untrustworthy professions. It is our duty, as real estate professionals, to help alter this perception in order for our profession to move forward and survive in an atmosphere of great change and increasing options for consumers. Only through awareness, education, and cooperation can we move forward and I would honor the opportunity to work with, and serve, RECO, to improve our consumer relations and how the consumer views us as a whole. We need to work together and diligently to achieve this goal, to gain the public trust back, and help to implement change, both at a government level and consumer level.

What attributes would you bring to RECO’s Board of Directors that would support its consumer protection mandate?
As a real estate professional. I always believe in putting the consumer first. The consumer makes us who we are. I am most proud when my clients tell me they trust me and my skills. Maintaining this trust is paramount. Protecting the consumer’s interest is a vital part of being a real estate professional. I always, and continue to, educate clients and customers through the entire process. I listen to their questions and concerns, and always find a way to ensure they understand the buying and selling process through transparency and the use of available tools to help them through it all. I created many packages for clients and customers with all the information needed to ensure that they are always well informed and confident in what they ultimately decide to proceed with.

Describe your experience(s) on a Board of Directors and/or committees of a public or private organization, trade association or not-for-profit organization.
I currently serve on the TRREB’s professional standards complaint review committee. The experience gained through this committee has helped me understand some of the issues that exist in our profession and how to deal with them. Aside from this important duty that I take very seriously, I have never served on any previous Board of Directors. But, like change itself, I need to begin somewhere. Although I did not serve on a Board, I more than make up for it with passion to work to achieve the goals I set above and to work with others to make it a reality. I know how to listen, how to communicate, how to cooperate and how to work hard to get things done. I am more than confident that I can serve RECO, the public, and my fellow real estate professionals in a fair and conscientious manner.

What business leadership skills/experience would you bring to RECO’s Board of Directors?
From an early age, I worked in construction while attending high school and eventually earned a BSc from U of T. I worked in a management role with others and constantly looked for ways to improve efficiency and quality. I directly managed over a hundred employees, including hiring and dismissing, and negotiated contracts and purchase agreements to ensure maximum profitability. I worked with insurers to reduce risk and coordinated all areas of commercial property management. I ensured that conflicts were resolved fairly between employees, builders and contractors. I learned the importance in creating budgets, reading financial statements and following governing laws and regulations from all levels within the industry. Throughout my career, being a leader has always been my strength.
