The Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002 (REBBA) provides a strong foundation for regulating the real estate sector, but it is due for an update to reflect the changing marketplace.
Proposals For REBBA Reform provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the recommendations that RECO has provided to the government, such as:
- Providing RECO with rule-making authority;
- Giving RECO’s Discipline and Appeals Committees the power to suspend or revoke registrations; and
- Requiring that registrants provide buyers and sellers with a consumer-focused guide prepared by RECO before they enter into a relationship with a brokerage.
