RECO will transition from launching one update course every two years to releasing shorter update courses annually every January. The 2022 Annual Update Course will be available starting January 1, 2022 and will remain accessible until the end of your registration cycle.
Registrants MCE requirements include:
- The 2022 Annual Update Course launching on January 1, 2022; and,
- Two electives of your choice.

Q1: What changes are being made to the new Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE) program?
A1:The new MCE program will be introduced on January 1, 2023. Starting in January 2022, update courses will launch every January instead of August every two years. Registrants will complete two annual update courses, rather than one biennial course, allowing for more timely content for registrants.
There will be a transition period between August 1, 2021 and December 31, 2022.
Q2. What do I need to do in the transition period?
A2. During the transition period, you will only be required to complete one update course.
Q3. Do I need to complete two annual update courses before January 1, 2023?
A3. No, you will only be required to complete one annual update course. Once you login to the MCE site, you will be provided with the update course you need to take based on your registration cycle.
Q4. When will I need to complete two annual update courses?
A4. The two annual update courses will come into effect when the new MCE program is introduced on January 1, 2023.The first group of registrants who will need to complete two annual update courses will be those who have a registration cycle that starts after January 1, 2023 and expires after January 1, 2025.
For example, if your registration cycle starts on May 10, 2023 and expires on May 10, 2025, you will need to complete two annual update courses. The first annual update course will be available January 1, 2023 and the second annual update course will be available January 1, 2024.
Q5. Why are two update courses being introduced?
A5. The current MCE program released an update course every two years. The new MCE program will allow registrants to get up-to-date changes on an annual basis.
Q6. When I am assigned two annual update courses, do I have to complete them in order?
A6. No, once the annual update courses are released, you may take them in any order at any time during your registration cycle.
Q7. Can I complete my MCE elective courses while I am waiting for the annual update course to be released?
A7. Yes, you may take your MCE elective courses at any time during your registration cycle.
Q8. Do these changes to the MCE program mean that I must pay the fee twice?
A8. No, the payment process for the MCE program has not changed. Once you make your payment for the MCE program, you will have access to MCE courses until your registration expiry date.
Q9. Will I still have the option to choose between the Residential Update course or the Commercial Update course?
A9. No, the new annual update course will contain content of interest to all real estate professionals. We will continue to develop MCE electives that focus on either residential or commercial topics.
