Application process

Each application is considered on an individual basis and by the virtue of the materials submitted by the applicant.  Please submit 2 (two) complete copies of your application package via mail.  Please note that applicants are not interviewed in person. A sworn notarized affidavit form is required with each written submission to serve as verification that all statements made within the written application are valid and accurate. 

Each application for an Educational Equivalency Assessment must include the following:

  1. A cover letter outlining your request, detailing your real estate related academic background and/or work experience.
  2. A completed notarized affidavit form with notary seal. Please ensure the original affidavit is submitted as copies will not be accepted. 
  3. Relevant documentation to support your request. The Registrar's decision will be rendered based on the supporting documentation included in your application. For a list of types of supporting documentation that may be included please click here.
  4. A non-refundable administrative fee of $100 (Canadian funds). Payment may be made by cheque or money order payable to the Real Estate Council of Ontario, or using the attached credit card payment form.

SHOULD THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT DETERMINE THAT YOUR APPLICATION IS DEFICIENT, YOU WILL BE PROVIDED WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO SUBMIT THE DEFICIENT MATERIALS WITHIN 30 DAYS. DEFICIENT APPLICATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN HELD BY RECO FOR GREATER THAN 60 DAYS WILL BE CONSIDERED ABANDONED AND ALL MATERIALS SUBMITTED WILL BE DESTROYED. THE NON-REFUNDABLE APPLICATION FEE WILL NOT BE REFUNDED. SHOULD YOU WISH TO WITHDRAW YOUR APPLICATION AT ANY TIME, YOU MAY REQUEST THAT THE MATERIALS SUBMITTED BE RETURNED TO YOU, LESS THE NON-REFUNDABLE APPLICATION FEE.

Once your completed application is received by the Office of the Registrar, a confirmation letter will be issued. The Registrar will review each application, assess the applicant's credentials, and will render a final decision, typically within 10-15 business days of receipt of your complete application.
